Hofstra offers many types of financial aid to help make college more affordable for you and your family. Some funds you earn, some you borrow, and some you don’t need to repay.
Scholarships and Grants (Free Money)
- Hofstra Scholarships — based on your admission application.
- Pell Grant — federal aid for eligible students.
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant — for students with high financial need.
- Tuition Assistance Program — for New York State residents.
- Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant — for students preparing to teach in high-need areas.
- Aid for Part-Time Study — for eligible NY students taking fewer than 12 credits.
- Out-of-State Grants — students from outside NY may qualify for aid from their home state.
Work-Study and Campus Jobs
Earn money on campus with flexible hours that work around your class schedule.
- Federal Work-Study — for students with demonstrated financial need.
- Campus Employment — available to all students, regardless of FAFSA status.
Loans (You Repay Later)
Loans can help cover costs not met by scholarships or grants. They must be paid back — with interest.
- Federal Direct Loans — subsidized and unsubsidized options.
- Parent PLUS Loans — for parents of dependent undergraduates.
- Graduate PLUS Loans — for graduate and professional students.
Other Sources of Aid
- State Grants — many states offer additional aid to residents attending out-of-state colleges.
